Hello — and Here We Go

Hey All,

I’ve never been very good at announcing myself. I’ve always been the guy most likely to walk up to the mic and say “this one’s called…”, and just go into it — let the song speak for itself. It seemed like the right way.
Unpretentious.

Now, I’m not saying pretentiousness isn’t a thing — it surely is. But it’s also a word fear uses to keep quiet people quieter. So, in the spirit of speaking up….

My name is Greg Montgomery. I’m a songwriter. I write songs about love, loss, and finding your way back — usually the long way around. You could call it Americana, folk, country, alt-country, roots rock, but the way I think about it is music about being a human amongst other humans.

I’ve been writing for a long time, mostly quietly. Like a lot of people, life had a way of getting in the way — work, family, loss, change — and the songs kept coming whether or not I was ready to share them. Somewhere along the line, I realized that keeping them to myself wasn’t really the point.

A few open mics later, I realized that I needed to put the songs into the world. Not because the world needed them (God knows we are blessed with so many great songs), but because I needed to be more fully in the world. This is my way of doing that.

So I’m calling 2026 the year I try to get out there a little more.

That doesn’t mean chasing big stages or pretending I’m something I’m not. It means showing up to open mics, playing small rooms when I can, recording songs as honestly as possible, and letting the music find its way into the world at its own pace. It means choosing connection over perfection, and progress over waiting until everything feels “ready.”

This site is part of that effort — a place to collect songs, share a few thoughts along the way, and let people know where I might turn up next. If you’re here because you heard a song, caught me at an open mic, or just stumbled in, I’m glad you found your way.

Thanks for listening.
— Greg
